I have two albinos...one is an adult and one is almost three months old. It is easy to tell them apart at this age, but how do you tell them apart when they are older...any tricks or do you just know???

I have 4 albino females and Kei and Kesia are the only ones I would have trouble telling apart. They are mother and daughter and identical in looks and very close in personality. We have Kesia, the daughter marked with a red mark on her back. Snow is the smallest plus her personality is different. Jube is close in personality but her nose is straighter.
Kei and Kesia we can tell apart but it takes about a minute to detect the subtle personality difference so we just have Kes marked. :)

I would use their faces and ears. There is a lot of variance to the shape of hedgie faces and the shape of the ears.

Well they are unrelated so that should make it easier...their personalities right now are completely different too. I was just worrying that my fiancee would put them together some time in the future and I wouldn't be able to figure out who was who.

I actually find a few of my chocolates are harder to tell apart. They are just identical in features and colour. I've marked a few of them too, not that I couldn't tell them apart after some time, but if I had to quickly I couldn't.

Luckily right now my darker ones are easy to tell apart. I'm sure as I get more into breeding I'll run across them looking alike...also what is safe to use to mark them??

My albinos are pretty easy to tell apart by personality alone- and they are sisters! Madelaine is a social butterfly while Juliet is a bit more reserved and bashful. Their noses are different too. No clue what to suggest as a safe marker

Yes, please, I'd also like to know the answer! I saw from Nancy's site that her last litter of albinos had different coloured marks on their backs. What do you use, Nancy? Is it something permanent, or will it wash off when bathed?
Curiously,

I have several Albinos so I mark them all except my very first one and Andra (who's obvious cuz she only has 3 legs). Piggy was the huffiest (she's the first) but as she ages she's really calming down and she's much harder to tell apart from her daughters.
I use nail polish on my hedgies who are marked. So far only my Albinos are marked but if I do several breedings at once mom will get marked the same color as the babies if there are lots of babies.
I just put a tiny, tiny, dab on there and then rub it off with a paper towel. This smears the polish to a few quills and dries it right on and we've never had a problem with it. Just make sure you write down the color codes so you don't forget.
If you mark them as babies it usually wears off during quilling so if you want them marked as an adult you'll have to do it again but for customers it usually comes off. Once I mark an adult it almost always remains long term.

All three of mine are so totally different in personility and looks that I don't have a problem telling them apart. I can tell at a glance who is who. Sorry that I can't be of more help than that. :)
