Crickets? How on Planet earth....

How do you feed hedghogs crickets? Like, with mealworms you can just put them in a treat bowl but...um...crickets hop. do you just kill them somehow? Thanks!

I've never fed live crickets. I used Flukers Freeze Dried Crickets. I've heard of some putting live crickets in the bathtub and letting the hogs have at it. Live mealies are more my pace. I don't have to worry about them straying to far :)

We buy a bag of say 10 large crix, and bring them home and put them in the deep freeze. Within minutes, they are ready to feed.

I get Zoo Med's Can O' mini crickets and both my hedgehog and cat love them. It's so funny because if I don't give Stuppy her own pile to eat she jumps right in Prickles playpen and eats Prickles crickets before she gets a chance!!!

-put hedgie and the crickets in the tub (with the plug in there of course :) )
-break a back leg or two off the crickets so they cant get away as fast (I cant bring myself to doing that)
-put the crickets in the freezer for a minute or two and it will slow them down so that your hedgie can catch them.
-leave the crickets in the freezer and they will die (might turn mushy once you thaw them out
-drop crickets into boiling water. It kills them instantly and then you can feed them to your hedgie
-buy a can of crickets- Zoomed and Flukers both make them

This is going to sound kinda gross. I place the crickets in a "cricket home" that's made just for them and then using a pair of sissors, I cut them in half and then put them in a bowl. Dar just sticks her finger in there and squashes them. :Pukey:

Definally EWWWWWWWW! :Pukey: I won't even get crickets :Pukey: My guys have to be happy with mealies, and mealies form twezers (cause i won't touch them)

I used to do really messy things like that as well. However, I've come up with a better idea. Just put them in the freezer and they'll die. Let them thaw a bit before you give them to your hedgies. :)
