Sorry guys, 1 more question.
what do you think is the best food to give Andey? (my chin)
the lady that owned him before was feeding him hamster/gerbil food.
when my aunt got him, she went straight to the store and got him chin food.
the food is pellets, with a mixture of some seeds, i think raisins? and dried banana chips?
im thinking that might be a lot of stuff in there and might not be the best way to go food wise, he sure likes it though!
what would you think is the best brand of food to buy?

hi again chinch, slowly switch him to a pellet food that has no seeds or any thing in it. too fast a switch can cause runny poops. not knowing what part of the us you are in any good pet store should have a suitable food. some people feed manna rabbit pellets. hope this helps tam, sam, and capi tooo...
ps free feed timmy hay

One thing to add to the feed he is currently on is that raisins to chins is like a laxative to people. I feed my chins manna pro sho rabbit pellets but I have used Mazuri in the past. My chins didn't do well on it that's why I switched but I know some chins do just fine on the Mazuri. Like tamsam said give plenty of timothy hay especially when switching his feed.

Like mentioned above, I would switch him to a pellet only food. If all you can get for now is pet store food Mazuri or Oxbow will do. There are certain things in some rabbit foods that are not good for chins so unless its a specific brand mentioned I wouldnt get rabbit food. Fruit and seeds are really bad for chins and should only be given as an occasional treat. Think of chinnies as little diabetics. Too much sugar is very harmful aswell as too much fat and oil from the seeds.
Don't worry about asking too many questions. Thats what this site is about. There are always people willing to help. I actually think the more questions asked the more the person cares about their chin. Good luck with the guy :)
p.s. Chinworld sells Chin pellet and enhancer also at a decent price. :)

Hi,.
I would go with the Mazuri, or Hubbard Traditions,, I use the Traditions, Alot of breeders use that, it was forumultated by a breed, and it has always has the same in each pellets, that strick with there make of thsi pellet, You can find at a grain and feed store, or Mazuri, can be found at pet stores. I'm not a fan of using other animals food to feed chins,

it's funny you said to think of chins as diabetics, i just found out a month ago that i am a diabetic!
i kinda figured that with those seeds and stuff in there that it probably wasnt the best to feed, but he sure does like it!
so, i want to go with mazuri? i think i saw that on chinworld.com when i was looking around.
i just want what is the best for him!

There are lots of great pellets out there. I just mentioned Mazuri because its decent and popular and can be found most places. Its much cheaper to find it online or at a feed store. I get my Mazuri for 12.99 for about 26 lbs from a feed store, but you have to make sure its fresh. Its going to be more expensive in a pet store. Probably around 8 bucks for 3 lbs. and it might be old. If you don't mind paying shipping Chinworld has the Mazuri pellets and they are always fresh.
If you want to look up a feed store I would try going to google, then typing in your state/area, the words feed supply mazuri dealers or something like that. :)

oh no, i dont have a problem paying the shipping at chinworld.com, plus i have a list of other things i want to order from there anyway, like they're seagrass mats? i have been to 8 different pet stores in 5 different cities, and none have anything close to those mats for they're cages! hehe, oh well.
I get my seagrass mats (the same ones chinworld has) from Cost plus which is a imported goods store-they are actually part of a large rug and they sell them for a 1.00 a square foot in 9 square foot lenghts. Look like kind of a freak when buying a 12in wide by 9 feet long mat to the check out people but oh well, its cheap.

Cinch ...check on this web site to find a Mazuri dealer near you, plus we're getting Tradition into WI big time this summer/fall, so there will be plenty of us in Wi who will happily get some for you, as you really don't need 50# of it. Mazuri comes in 25# bags but I'll be going to Naperville on Saturday morning if you want to meet somewhere on I94, I could sell you 5# or so to get you started.
