Hi everyone,
I could really use some help. I was playing with our chin, gizmo, tonight and notices one of his front paws is red and kind of scaly..it also might be a bit swollen but it is hard to tell..he likes to wiggle!
I read a little bit and it sounds like it might be fungus, however it seems most fungus start on nose or eyes..is that true? Do I need to take him to a vet or can I treat this at home? He is still very active and eating. He doesn't seem to like to run on the paw but he'll use it for light grooming and holding treats.
Thanks guys!

Does he have only wire in his cage? I have read that they get ouchy feet if they dont have good things to stand on...

Nope..the bottom of their cage is plastic and we put down bedding. They have plenty of sitting platforms and a hiding house too....

I did a little more research and came up with this http://www.chincare.com/HealthLifestyle/GroomingFurHealth.htm
The pictures really look a lot alike. Perhaps he has dry skin? They recommend some treatments...any suggestions?

I think I would check the chinnie over well to make sure there arent any other patches. How often are you giving dust baths? I would imagine the moisturizer wouldnt hurt. I really like Eucerin. Its a hypoallergenic one recommended by my pediatrician for my sons dry patches of skin.
GOOD LUCK!

Hey, thanks for the info. We generally give them a dust bath every other day or so. I just used the pure aloe vera like that site suggested and it seemed ok. He investigated it a little bit but soon lost interest and started chewing on something haha.
Any other suggestions welcome!

I think I remember reading that some people use vitamin E. The gel caps and you puncture them and put the ooze from inside on the dry skin. It works on human acne too lol ( sorry I have teenaged girls)
Good luck. Hope he gets better soon :)
