I was currious to find when browsing the forums that people don't seem to use the One Earth foods in their mixes despite it's 5 hedgie rating from pogstar.

One reason that came to mind is the name given on pogstar is 8in1 One Earth Naturals. There is nothing that says 8in1 on my bags of One Earth that I picked up from the local grocery store but the ingredients are very high quality in general and the first 5 match those listed on pogstar. So perhaps there is a bit of confusion over the name.

It's my Spoodle's favorite out of the mix(that might have something to do with the fact she's geting a small amount of the adult 18% fat formula to suplement her csftcls lite and royal canin 38 ) and I'm intending on adding in the senior once I get through a few more pounds of her current mix.

She likes them almost as much as she likes her mealies and so sometimes I use them as treats.

But being the nervous person I am I'm worried if there's some reason why other people don't seem to be using this food that I missed.

The first 5 ingredients of both are
1. Chicken Meal 2. Lamb Meal 3. Brown Rice 4. Chicken Fat
5. Chicken Digest

Adult is
Protein 34%
Fat 18%
Fiber 3%

Senior is
Protien 32%
Fat 14%
Fiber 4%

Here's the site for their products (http://www.eightinonepet.com/products.php?display=49&main=3)

Anyone else out there use One Earth? Any reasons I shouldn't?
Thanks.

I think that this food is a bit hard to find; pogstarhedgehogs.com recommends the ferret store, but that is the only place I seem to see it (online), it is also a bit expensive, maybe that why not a lot of people use it in their mixtures, I dont know. :dunno:

I see that the site has a store locator, I think once they get it up and running, more people will be able to find something closer.

Also, I have been trying my hardest to find the companies website, and haven't been able to find it until now..ty for the link!

I think that food sounds and looks fine.

The fat content in both is acceptable (although I would still go with the senior version if it were for my fatties), as is the protein.

Look further down the list of ingredients and check to make sure there is no BHA, BHT or ethoxyquin- they would most likely be listed "as a preservative". If it doesnt contain any of those (they are harmful, and have been linked to cancer) it sounds like youve got yourself a pretty good food :)

It is also recommended to feed your hedgie more than one kind of food. The idea is that a second or third type of food will help to make up with the others are lacking. As well, if one food goes out of production, or you have trouble finding it for a while, you wont have to worry, because you will still have the other types of food in their mix that they can eat.

Other foods that you may want to look into are:

Wellness
Wysong
Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul
Buffalo Blue
Royal Canin Slim 38 / Royal Canin Indoor 37 (cat)
Royal Canin Mini Special 30 (dog)

Most people go with the lite/senior versions of these foods, (except for the RC cat- those are already the lite version, and the RC Special 30 doesnt have a lite version) but it doesnt hurt to have an adult version or two in your mix either. Balance it out, and see what works best for your hedgie :)
