Well I'm not so much a new owner but more so a enlightened one for lack of better words lol. I have had my beautiful albino hedgie (dexter) for almost a year now (I think hes about 3 years old). I got him from his previous owners that could no longer care for him. So I kinda just had a crash course in caring for him. I gave him the proper light cat food with the recomened bits of iron and vitamins. I also know that they can have meal worms from time to time but past that I"m not really too sure. I know that they can have certain bits of meat, veggies and fruit, but what kinds :dunno: ? I want to give him the proper diet I"m just not sure of it. Please help lol thank you :)

Stage 1 gerber baby foods are also a hit. Potatoes, meat sticks, etc... Make sure you get stage 1, as stage 2 has extra ingredients added in that could be bad for your hedgie.

Remember, different hedgies like different things, so it might take a while to find something he likes. :)

Pringle always liked soft mixed veggies (peas, carrots), pears, applesause. He liked Gerber chicken and pears and beef and carrots. I fed him hamburger meat (without the grease), chicken finely chopped, even salmon.

My NacL gets a little bit of moist dogfood sometimes. He also gets wee bits of chicken and tuna. And so far as veggies goes he has eaten strawberries & green beans. I try other stuff periodically (have also tried boiled eggs, grapes, etc, but no go on those.) Sometimes I also mix in cheerios which has mixed results.

Experiment (but wisely!) And enjoy Dexter!
