I have heard of people giving their hedgehogs oysters and fish, but how about squid? I was eating some dried squid and was carelessly holding a piece near one of my girl's cages, and she really took a firm chomp onto it! I managed to get it out of her mouth without having her swallow any. It seems like she really wanted it. Any thoughts? :)

It would probably be ok. I know some other animals (ferrets/cats) can have allergic reactions to shrimp or squid or other specific meats, but it would probably depend on the individual. I haven't heard of any problems with feeding squid, but don't rely solely on my opinion.

Ive never heard of anyone giving their hedgie squid. That doesnt mean that you cant do it...but I dont think I would personally. Id be afraid of it upsetting their tummy or something...

Not to mention I dont eat seafood- so its never available in my house really. And the texture of squid makes me think of what it might be like to eat a tire. Icky.

I'd be worried about the salt content in the dried squid and/or any added spices. Also, the rubbery texture of squid might be hard for hedgies to chew. I think seafood in general is ok if it's cooked plain - no spices, salt, oil, butter, etc. I've given Razzle steamed scallops and salmon in tiny amounts and he LOVES it.

Do hedgehogs eat squid in the wild?

I think that they can be a bit opportunistic in the wild but squid, especially dried squid, doesn't seem like something a hedgie needs in his/her diet.

That's just my $0.02

ps - Lest anyone think that I am a squid hater I assure you that calamari is one of my favorite indulgences :)
