At first glance the food looks okay, but when looking at the ingredients you will see that both BHA and ethoxyquin are in the food. Preservatives, I believe, have been known (or are suspected to have) cause cancer in animals and hedgehogs.

Very true. There are foods that are much worse, but to be safe I wouldn't feed this one.
If you are only feeding one food at the moment, I would suggest finding another food to feed. It is a good idea to feed two or more foods because it guarantees that the foods meet the hedgehog's dietary needs, and provides something to fall back on if you can no longer obtain the first food.
I would suggest foods such as Wellness, Buffalo Blue, Wysong, Royal Canin Slim, etc...
For food reviews please check either www.pogstarhedgehogs.com or http://www.fairfaxhedgehogs.com/Feeding%20Page%20of%20Hedgehog%20Site.htm
Many good foods can be purchased very cheaply from www.petfooddirect.com

Hope this helps! :)

Also, the first ingredients are by-product and meal based, not to mention, there is rice, wheat, soybean hulls, soybean meal, flour, and a lot of other filler material that your hedgie doesn't need. Why would anybody ever feed their animals aspen? Do they honestly think that hedgehogs in the wild eat trees?

I wouldn't feed it to my crew personally for the following reasons:
1. the preservatives mentioned above
2. poultry by product meal - beaks, feathers, feet, etc. Not a promising source of quality meat
3.ground aspen- I can think of better sources of fiber to add to my hedgie mix
4.poultry digest This is basically bird poop. Sounds good right?

I would stick to the Chicken Soup myself

Isn't this just ZooFare (aka Insectivore Fare)? Or was it Mazuri that was adding the aspen?

Could be, I didn't bother to go look up ingredients ;) I just knew I had seen them before under a different name.. and were of a food I would never feed.
