I've seen pictures and heard about this type of hedgehog in the past. Does anyone on here own one or know someone who does? I've heard that they can be less social, but also that they closely resemble the White Bellied/Algerian in behaviour.
I find it extremely unlikely that I will ever get one, as I am living in Ontario, which is NOT hedgie capital of the world, but I was just interested in finding out if anyone here owns one.
I don't own one, but I know someone on the hedgehogcentral.com forums does. They say their alittle less social but otherwise pretty close. I don't remember the name of the person.....ill go do a search...
Actually the thread was on this site...

I found a couple sites on these hedgies. They are not in english unfortunately :freak: . They look to be breeders. Can you buy hedgies as pets from breeders from different countries, or is that illegal?? I don't know how I would ask the price of these hedgies anyway in a different language  .
The sites are here (http://www.ystad.nu/igelkott/index.htm) and here (http://www.wuestenigel.net/index.html) .
Happy reading (LOL)!!!

I don't know if it would be legal or not, but it would probably be an arm and a leg just to get them here overseas. They're still very cute though. I wish there were more breeders close by.
Happy reading (LOL)!!!
You're funny!

I wrote the APHIS/USDA about the importation of the long ears, and they said that they can't import hedgehogs anymore. I guess that means any type of hedgehogs :( . Maybe I should send my nephew over there to smuggle some over. When he came to visit us from the Marines in San Diego, he had bought a lizard (baby green water dragon) and snuck it under his shirt somehow and brought it home with him on the airplane. Then he had to go back for a couple of weeks and guess who got stuck petsitting this thing?!! I had no clue how to care for reptiles, but we spent a decent amount of dough on the supplies for this critter; and that was the bare minimum to keep him in till his "owner" came back.
