I have a question concerning urine output in a hedgie that weighs about 490 grams. This morning she was making a huffing and screeching sound and looking like she was having troubles going potty. I put her in the tray I use to weigh our hedgies. She looked to be straining. After going potty I measured the urine, there was a lot, 47cc. I put her on a blanket while I was doing this and she soaked the blanket making the same noises. I called the vet and have an appt. this afternoon. Does anyone have suggestions. Her weight this AM before going was 544 grams and 490 grams after. She seemed back to normal after she went; should I be concerned or is this normal? :dunno:

Hedgehogs can produce enormous amounts of urine or feces in a single "sitting". However, she should not have been making those noises. I would definately take her to the vet, ad have the urine tested for infection or kidney stones.

I would have said it was kidney stones, or an infection (UTI?). Our cat had kidney stones and had the same problem. She strained and only managed to go potty once a day, or she would soil herself as she was sleeping.
Good luck with the vet. I hope it isn't anything serious!

All hedgies pee different amounts. When Annabelle is out in her playpen and she pee's you would swear a dog had an accident!
How did the vet visit go?

The vet put her on enrofloxacin to start with. We have to bring her back on Monday because they want to do an x-ray and urinalysis all at one time. Their x-ray machine was not working and was sent out for repairs. The vet also did sub-Q fluids. She had a full work up including blood work and urinalysis July 27 and everything was good. This was the day they removed the tumor from her mouth.
Is there a web site I can go to, to read up on the different meds they are on. Cuddles is on Sucrulfate Suspension and Albon 5% for GI inflammation. I like to know about the meds I am giving and What to look for concerning side effects. I am always concerned when medicating them and syringe feeding them. I am afraid they might aspirate the stuff.
