I went to the pet store yesterday to get some treats for Hedgewood. I wanted to get her wax worms as they are her favorite. The pet store did not have was worms, but they had butter worms. Are these okay for Hedgehogs to eat. They sure look gross.........grosser than the average worm.

Well I have no advice since I've never heard of butterworms before, but I had to laugh at "grosser than the average worm". Yuk! I can't imagine them getting any grosser!

Look at how fat those worms are! I'm sure they are fine as long as they are fed in moderation. My sugar gliders would go nuts with those!

Butterworms are very nutritionally sound and contain twice as much calcium as any other feeder insect. Don't let the name fool you, they are not high in fat.
They have a sweet smell and can attract even the pickiest eater.
Butterworms are very easy to keep. Once you get them home or have them shipped in they will be in a gutload already (normally chicken mash). Check to make sure this gutload is not damp, wet, or moldy. If it is, change it ASAP. You can use oat bran or wheat bran. Leave them be for 30 min to an hour and check on them again. They should be weaving the new gutload together.
Then, just stick them in the fridge until you are ready to use them. They do not need any additional food or water source. Just check them every now and again for signs of moisture in their container. I have never had a problem with moisture in their container and I have been using them for almost 3 years now for my leopard geckos.
If you have any other questions about butterworms, please feel free to ask.
