View Full Version : Wheat germ?
So, I'm mildly worried that Cornelius isn't getting enough fiber in his diet (he's on Royal Canin lite 37. Won't touch any fruits or veggies, but really like scrambled eggs).
I've got a jar of wheat germ in the refridgerator that I eat (on my cereal and the like), is it safe for hedghogs?

I can't speak for wheat germ, but I know some folks add small amounts of Grape Nuts to their hedghog's food mixture. I would *assume* that wheat germ would be be safe for your Cornelius, but would recommend that you ask your vet, just in case.

I was wondering about wheat germ too. I have used grapenuts sprinkled on Razzle's kibble (don't know how much of it he actually eats though). But the wheat germ would be easier to mix in with babyfood chicken (his favorite). Haven't done it because I wasn't sure if it was ok.

I don't see why it wouldn't be ok but I would definitely double check with your vet. My only concern would be that it would get yucky fast. You'd have to dump the dish every single day. Wheat germ has to stay in the fridge right? I think that's so it doesn't mold so I would think Grape Nuts would be a bit easier...
