Hello. I was just wondering what mites actually look like. Are they easily visible? or do you have to go looking for them, also, do they fly? weird question but im currently doing my weekly cleaning of the animals cages, and i'm finding swarms of tiny black bugs, which i think are fruit flies. Its summer here, and there's amazingly a lot of bugs getting into my house :(

Mites are white and if you look very closely at your hedgies skin, sometimes you can see them moving. The easiest way to check is to do "scraping" is to take a piece of scotch tape and press against her skin. You can sometimes see them that way too.
Add water to the black stuff you've been seeing in her cage to make sure it's not flea dirt. It will turn red if it's fleas

Those darn fruit flies breed at an alarming rate too... glad it's not mites. Those can be a pain!
