My 6 month old hedgie seems to be losing weight. He weighs about 220 grams which is 20 grams less than he weighed at his checkup with the vet a month ago. Shouldn't he be getting bigger, not smaller? What's the average weight range for a male hedgehog? Thanks for any advice.

How often do you weigh him? A 20 gram weight loss could be from a big poop. When he was at the vet last month, did you have your vet run a fecal? Parasites or a bacterial overgrowth can cause a weight loss.
There isn't an average weight for a male hedgie. It depends on their shape (runner- long legs, lean body, teardrop shaped- plumper, body shape looks like a teardrop), genetics (breeder vs. petstore) and diet. I currently have 2 males. Oliver will be 1 in October and he weighs in at 250 grams, Atticus is about 1 1/2 and he weighs in ~330 grams. Both are healthy boys, just different shapes
