Ive been away from my hedgies for the past month and a half. Today to my excitment I went and picked them up from the friend who was looking after them. Everyone seemed well, and looked great.
I got them all home just a little while ago, and set them up in their homes. That is when Bosco started to act strangely. He keeps on hopping around, and almost twitching. Sometimes he will almost "flounder" like his feet just wont keep him up.
He is warm enough and was acting totally fine until a little bit ago. I dont know if he is just stressed out (he had a fairly long ride home, and then I clipped his nails)- or if something is really wrong and I should get him to the vet right away. Im going to go and check on him now.
Insight?
Oh yeah, and his back feet arent dragging. He just keeps on twitching and jumping, all he wants to do is run around like a mad man.

Maybe he's just happy to be home and has all this energy now that there's familiar smells around him? And he just doesn't know how to contain it, so he hops around and scares the life out of you...maybe?
I hope everything is okay with him, though. I guess a vet visit couldn't hurt..

How's he doing now? Sounds like he just might be excited to see you. If he wants to run/play, that's usually a good sign. Had your friends who were taking care of him noticed this behavior? If it just started today, I'd just keep an eye on it. But if it's been going on...I'd say vet time!

I talked to Nancy on the phone (because I was freaking out!) and she said that something is probably just bothering him- like a quill poking etc. I gave him a good look over, and didnt notice anything like that. But upon watching him some more his behaviour did seem like something was bugging him. Im keeping a close eye on the stinker. My friend said that he was never doing anything like that when she had him- and to make things even more confusing he was totally normal when I got there to pick him up.
I swear they do this on purpose to us. If things dont improve, or get worse it will be off to the vet for us.

You know it is just payback for you going away and leaving him. :)

Bosco- you are supposed to be the "good hedgie". Murdoc is the trouble maker in your family! Be a good boy and stop making your mom upset!

I think that's the most plausible reason. ahaha.
"Go off and leave me, will she? I'll show her!"

I would agree that something was probably bugging him. Maybe something in his ear? Zaidy did that when he was having the ear wax issues, or a quill or something. Let us know how he's doing! :)

He has been running around like a mad man for the past hour or so. I called my vet, but they were just closing, and the vet I usually deal with isnt there. I called the 24 hour emergency vet, and apparently they only take cats and dogs, and the dumb so and so on the phone said "he probably has parasites because of the conditions he has been house in". I didnt know if I should cry or scream at her- Im insulted that she would assume that I dont take care of my animals.
I gave him a warm bath in the sink with some oatmeal in there. He hated every minute of it...but at least I got to hold and cuddle him for a couple minutes after. He finally sat still. After he had enough of that I offered him some cheese (he loves that stuff)- but he didnt want anything to do with it.
I put him back in his cage and he started to run around again. Then went on his wheel. He NEVER goes on his wheel during the day. Never.
Then he went over and ate a couple kibbles and had some water. At least he is eating and drinking. Now he seems to be sleeping (finally)
Tomorrow he is going to the vet.
