Huggles had her repeat x-ray of the lateral view today. The vet said
they could not see anything that looked like stones, sledge, or a
tumor. He said the bladder was definitely distended and had no form
to it. He is thinking she has a neurogenic bladder. That is a
bladder without muscle tone due to nerve impulses the bladder does not contract. He said he would rather being dealing with a stone. All three of the vets are going to have a short conference on Huggles to discuss the best and safest treatment. The vet she saw today wants to start her on Bethanechol Chloride which would cause strong bladder contractility. Which would hopefully help the bladder to regain its form and cause her to urinate.
We are to feed her soft Hills ID with added water and push water on
her just in case there is a stone or sledge he is not seeing and to
continue with Phenoxybenzamine. Phenoxybenzamine helps to relax the
internal urethral sphincter tone to help get the urine out and any
possible sledge.
I put all this info on the post in case any hedgie was experiencing
similar problems.
I will keep everyone posted with the final radiology results,
treatment plan and outcome.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day.
Cyndy
