Does anyone have any suggestions on stimulating a hedgie to urinate?
I tried a warm wet wash cloth to her bottom. I tried massaging her bottom. I tried running water with her on a wee pad; this causes her to get stressed out because she hates the sound of running water. She does go sometimes doing this. I also tried putting her in warm water she total gets stressed out, but urinates. I also tried a warm snuggle disc under her.
I am just worried she will get stressed out and get sick or diarrhea which right now would not be good. She started the Bethanechol Chloride on Saturday; she is also still on Phenoxybenzamine. So far she is not unrinating on her own.
Thanks Cyndy

Did you try massaging her tummy with a warm finger? It gives the impression of when she was just a baby, and her mother would lick her. I know this sometimes gets things moving, but I'm not sure if it would cause her to urinate. It might just be to prompt the bowels into excreting feces, perhaps.

I guess it can't hurt though, right?

EDIT: Is she drinking water at all? She may just not have to urinate, which isn't good. Have you tried syringing her water into her mouth?

She has a neurogenic bladder, which the bladder muscles are atrophied, her bladder does not look like a bladder at all. Yes, she is drinking water and her soft food right now has water added to it. She never had problems going on her own before.
I will try the warm finger and see if it helps, it definitely can not hurt.
Thanks Cyndy

Huggles is going potty on her own one to two times a night. She will probably be on meds for life. But at least she is going.
