Okay, Something weird happened to Poke last night...okay:

I took Poke out after she woke up, ran on the wheel, ate, drank, and pooped in litter-tray. She was acting completely normal. When I took her out she walked around, normally then she ran around, smashed into everything, then tried to wedge herself in between the cage and wall. Then she was completely still. I didn't see her breathe so I thought she was dead. I picked her out of there and she wasn't hissing at me which is weird. I decided to leave her for the night and now she is fine. COMPLETELY fine. She is hissing like heck again and Im no longer worried but do you guys know what this copuld've been? She only walked around a bit and annointed then went crazy... :dunno:

HIJO :)

Something about this here (http://www.chins-n-quills.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73350) and here (http://www.chins-n-quills.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71356). Neither one is very helpful, I'm afraid, but at least you can see it has happened to a few other people. I don't think I've ever run across it personally.

The only times I've run across the 'death sleep' is when they are extremely comfortable and are very fast asleep.

In the OP I'm curious to know whether you meant that her smashing into everything was abnormal or normal behavior? I ask because I've had a few hedgehogs who became very agitated while out playing for no apparent reason. I speculate that a strange smell, high pitched noise I couldn't detect, or even thunderstorms coming into the area caused it.

As for the death sleep... no explanation other than extreme relaxation. It's extremely scarey as you can pick them up and they will be completely limp.

yeah...thats kinda creepy....it doesn't sound like anyone nos what it is... Oh, and I thought she might have gone into hibernation or something but the temperature was 74 degrees so I was scared she was dying because I was giving her some new food... :) but shes fine now so Im not as worried.....just curious....

HIJO :)

she wasn't smashing into everything....this IS abnormal for her and she kinda side-hit the wall while she was in her sudden running frenzy...
