Do chins popcorn?

Hi all,

Just a quick question, do chins popcorn (like cavies do)? I used to care for cavies long ago, and they'd litterly jump straight into the air, shaking thier heads at dinner time, or when I let them run about. It was considered a good thing.

The other night I observed the same behavior from one of our chins, but my wife is concerned that our chin is "frustrated" and or "angry".

Nope "popcorning" is normal chin behavior- mine do it when they get spunky and are having fun :)

My boys popcorn dance all the time, usually right after I give them new hay!

I have a little girl rescue who does it all the time. When she gets more food, when she gets off the wheel, when she sees the dust bath (which is followed by rolling on the floor no where near the dust bath). She is one happy and spunky little girl. I am almost sad to adopt her out.

hehe, Andey popcorn jumps when he is excited! when i let him out of his cage, when he gets done with a dust bath, i have only seen him do it when he seems happy and excited, so it is a good thing!

It is a happy little thing that chinnies, rabbits, and g. pigs do while they are out running. They are usually quite excited and riled up when they do it. They hop into the air and shake and twist slightly like a person would if they were dancing and jumped up and tapped together thier heels. It is a happy hop. It is not done when they are stressed or scared, they have to feel safe.

LOL!! Did not know what it was called, but mine does it all the time at playtime. He also jumps off walls, he is psycho!! LOL :dunno:

jumping off the walls is referred to as the art of "wall surfing" LOL that is a riot to see too!!!
