I am getting my hedgie soon and am switching from 8-in-1 to CSFTCLS and was wondering which one do you feed your hedgies? I noticed that the kitten formula was higher in fat so I would assume the adult one or the adult light? Also, if you feed the canned food of this brand, what do you give them to crunch on to keep their teeth strong? That was the main reason I fed Pringle 8-in-1 b\c I was unaware that there was actually a "nutritous" cat food (so scared of fatty liver disease). Any insight would be wonderful.

I'd imagine everyone feeds the Adult Light version...the lower in fat, the better (about 10% fat is ideal, I believe). And I don't think many people feed canned cat food as a staple, since hedgies need the hard kibble to keep their teeth and gums healthy. Canned food is fine as a treat, but hard kibble should be the main part of the diet.

I've heard of some people using Grape Nut cereal to sprinkle on low crunch and fiber foods. I think this is alright although I have never done it. Poke didn't really like the canned stuff I got her...I should try some again

I feed my 2 the chicken soup for the cat lovers soul adult. The lite formula isn't available around here, I am going to ask about them getting the lite formula in though. Teh nicest part is that it comes in these smaller bags, so I don't have to worry about the food going bad. the only complaint is that the pieces are kinda big (Herbie choked on it not too long ago) so now I break his into smaller pieces. Both of my hedgies like it though :) I also mix in Royal Canine Slim and Pro Plan senior chicken and rice which is Herbie's absolute favorite (not a piece left in his bowl). I would also reccommend using a mix rather than one type of food. Hope this helps.

I also use the light formula in my mix. It's by their favorite food with the exception of Felidae (higher in fat). I was also paranoid about the large x shape. I take a rolling pin to the bag before I mix up a batch of food. :)
With the concern of fatty liver disease ( I have one obese hedgie who is refusing to lose any of her pudge) I would stick to the light or even senior versions of food. Make sure you read labels with senior foods though. Some have higher fiber content, but some also have a higher fat% than the light versions. I just dump a box of grape nuts in the mixing bowl whenever I make up new batches of food. Most of my hedgies will eat them!

I use Grape Nuts cereal as well. I sprinkle on a bit every second day. Hemi isn't fond of it, but she eats it if I feed her a bit less of her normal food. It sounds cruel, but it works when I want her to eat the grape nuts. LOL.

I've never actually tried it but I think I should, I just need to look for it. I'm in the middle of switching her foods right now so I should soon...

I always used the light version, until the one Pet store I always went to stopped getting it in. No one was buying it, so I had to order it in. By mistake, they sent the dog king, and I accidentally took it home with out realising. I tried it anyways since I feed a mix of foods, and it worked out allright. I crushed it first into little pieces. They didn't seem to mind the difference between cat and dog.

After that little mistake, I always check before leaving the store.
