Alright so we all know a member a few months back that seemed to be collecting anything they could get their hands on. She also didn't seem to have the lifestyle or financial needs to be taking in that many animals. Well I live relavitely close to her (one state over) and tried my best to warn those putting up free hedgehogs for adoption about her and even bought a female from a women to make sure it didn't fall into her hands. (Note: I love my tinkerbell to death and even got her linage from the original breeder so I could breed her.)
Well try as I might, she got ahold of a male hedgehog about a month and half ago. I thought to myself: I garuntee it's not going to come out of it's shell with a 'house' full of kids and that many animals.
Well this morning I get an email from this person (through a rescue group) saying she doesn't have time for it any more and it's Huffy!! Gee didn't see that one coming *yeah right!!* But the thing that really gets me is that I'm pretty sure she got the hog for free and now she wants an adoption fee!!! Someone else could have taken the hog in and gave it a good forever home. All my rescues get a forever home here where they are spoiled with mealies and get to relax for the rest of their lives.
I guess I just wish people screened better before giving away their pets!! I make every person who emails me see my website and I give them my vet info as well. Alright this is long enough I'm getting off my :soapbox: now.
Wow, that's really bad. I wasn't hear to have this happen on here (At least I don't think I was), but she sounds horrible. Are you still gonna take her in? How much is the adoption fee? Gee, I feel like I can't really do anything in this situation...Keep us updates, please!

I don't know if I'll offer to take the male from her or not. Right now I'm so mad at the woman that I just want her to realize that getting a hedgehog is a huge responsiblity and you can't just dump it on other poeple when you decide that oh it's not for me. I know that it would be in the best interest of the hedgehog to go to a good home. It's going to take me a couple of days to decide.

I also got the email through the group and was pretty upset by this. I am tired of people becomming "horders" when they have too many animals already. Let someone else be able to take an animal in and give it the care and time for it that the animal deserves. I see the girl on petfinder that I adopted Kahlua from and she is getting rid of animals all the time on there. I think she rescues them and then turns around and sells them for an adoption fee. People like this anger me  and I wish there was more we could do about it. I hope this hedgie finds a forever home where he will get the love and attention that he deserves.

Actually when I spoke with my USDA inspector they track down people who turn a profit on free animals like that. I think if you go to your Humane Society and report this behavior they have to look into it. When I got the three rescues from Missiouri, I went on line and reported her immediately. Apparently there are a lot of people that will jump at rescues or rehomes and then turn around and sell them, it's a known scam.

that's horrible :(
I think if they need the money they should get a job. That's very evil to the animals....ESPECIALLY rescues! GRRR....Now i'm REALLY MAD

Even I would like to be updated on this...mainly b/c I think I know who your talking aobut. If it is who I think it is I actually get along with her... I don't talk to her often but she seems nice enough... If this is the case I'm sure most of the little contact I have with her will be cut off....I hope this hedgie goes to a good home...I'd take it if I could...

It appears that the hedgehog has gotten posted to this site, even though she has been banned. She is also asking for a pretty high 'adoption' fee for someone that only had the hedgehog for a month. How can you eve ask for a fee when people were more then willing to take the hog in at the very beginning?!?!?!
