Hello! I heard about this forum on a guinea pig forum, so I decided to come by and check it out. My name is Susan, I'm 27-years-old, and I'm from Texas. Currently, I have 4 chinchillas, 7 guinea pigs, 2 hamsters, a cat, and a dog.
My chinchillas are Buster (a black velvet), Jelly Bean (a standard grey), Pipsqueak (a standard grey), and a new baby who's unnamed and only 1 week old.
I adore all my animals, but my chinchillas hold a very special place in my heart. I learned so much about guinea pigs from the guinea pig forum I joined, so I thought I should do the same for my chins.
Currently, my chins live in a cage that my father built for me. It's 6 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and about 2.5 feet deep, all constructed of untreated pine, melamine, and 1" wire mesh. The chins seem very happy in it. I have a flying saucer for them, as they destroyed every wheel I've purchased, but they can't seem to figure out how to use the saucer. I'm hoping I'll learn of an indestructible chin wheel on this forum.
I use CareFresh for their bedding. They eat Mazuri pellets and Oxbow hay, and I use BlueCloud dust for their dust bath.
Are there any superior products to the ones I'm using? Any gaping errors I'm making in caring for my chins?
I'm so glad to be a part of this forum and I look forward to lots of chin talk in the future!
