View Full Version : Painting fumes

Hey everyone, long time no talk. Just popping in to ask a quick question, and see if my logic was correct.

In a couple days, my mother is starting her 'spring project' - okay, so it's going into fall, she's a bit late. She wants to paint our house, my room included. And my room is where Ms. Hemi lives. What I was wondering, how should I go about this? The paint is oil based, and I don't want Hemi breathing in the fumes, because she's so little and everything. Would it be alright if I were to move her to the opposite end of the house then where the painting is going on, and then really air out my room before I move her back? Or is it better to move her downstairs, and closely monitor the temperature?

I was thinking the other end of the house should be fine, but I don't know how long Mom would be willing to wait between painting my room and then the living room (where Hemi's temporary home would be). It gets a bit chilly in the basement, which is why it wouldn't be my first choice as to where to move her. Of course, if it comes down to it, I'll move her to the basement, and set up a space heater and keep her heating pad on. I may put a thermometer down there for the next couple days to see how cold it gets, and use that to help me decide.

Any suggestions you all could give would be great. Thanks again.

Geez, she can come paint my house if she wants.

I would see how bad the smell is in your living room. Oil based paints stink. If it is too strong in there then be prepared to move her downstairs.

The worst thing about paint smell is we get used to the smell and don't notice how strong it really is unless we leave for a few hours and then come back.

LOL. I'll be sure to send her over there. She's a painting machine. As long as she comes home with a new hedgie baby. ;) Ms. Hemi needs a playmate. LOL.

Yeah...I'm going to see how bad it is. The bathroom will be started within the next day or two, but I will be insisting on windows being open at all times. *sigh* I wonder if I can talk her out of painting my room and everything on this end of the house...
