Togape is literally climbing the sides of her cage to get out. Then she tries to climb sideways or onto the ceiling of the cage and falls she's not really falling that far but I'm worried she'll land on a baby (in fact I just moved the babies into a back corner because she's focused on the front of the cage) is there anything I should worry about or that I can do to put an end to it? The babies are 2 weeks old....

Do you have two hidey spots in the cage?? I've heard/read that sometimes the mom's can get stressed out and need some alone time away from the hoglets as they get older. Maybe giving her another place to feel safe would calm her down, I know at about 2-3 weeks my mom's start to take short naps outside of the nest and go back to it when the hoglets cry for milk. I hope this helps :)

My husband thinks that what happenned is due to the fact that last night I cleaned her cage and while I was doing that I put the babies on a blanket on the floor and let her out to wander about...he's decided she wants her freedom to wonder the house again.

She got tired of the babies last night after we put everyone back in the cage and she covered them with her food bowl....I thought it was odd since she didn't attempt to hide them with it when they were younger...

You are not supposed to clean the cage until the babies are weaned which is 5-6 weeks. At 2 weeks you should just be starting to handle the babies.
She is freaking out because her nest and cage have been changed. I would try putting some of the dirty bedding back, leave her totally alone and hope that she calms down and starts taking care of the babies.

I clean my cages once the babies are 2 1/2-3 weeks old. If I waited until they were weaned, the moms would be walking in deep filth. But yes, there are some moms that can be bothered by it at that age, I usually scoop messy areas for a week or so before I actually do a complete clean.

I've been spot cleaning for the past two weeks on an everyother day basis, she's been letting me hold the babies since they were 9 days old...(one actually crawled halfway into my hand while I was giving her cottage cheese) there was no possible way i could wait any longer to clean her cage, I even had to scrub some of the nastiness out. I did find out that the only time she was trying to escape was when we were around...she was fine when she wasn't aware of our presence. And just to make sure there is no confusion, Togape hasn't stopped taking care of her babies at any point in time. She is still the same wonderful attentive mother she has been even though I've done all these NO-NO's when it came to her litter.

I was watching a moment ago and it's not that she covered them with her bowl, they just happenned to make it underneath as they've adventured to the land under the food bowl once again...they are so cute half-walking/scooting with those wobbly little legs. :stitch:

I have pictures of them in the thread Togape's babies, and I've got some more I'm going to post on there as soon as I resize them.
