I have read in some older posts about people toting their hedging around while shopping, etc.

And for those of you that do, I was wondering why *you* do it. To promote hedgie awareness, for attention, hedgie bonding time, some other reason...

I take mine to visit people in the stores that we frequent. Everyone knows I am the hedgehog lady so of course want to meet them. They have been to the pet stores, fabric stores and the post office. :)

My guy has been to my work, (I work in a mall) some people wanted to see him.

Last summer I took Bosco all over the place. I did it because I really liked having him along for company :) We visited my work, my moms work, Walmart, a pet store (he wanted to help pick out his food hehe), and my friends house.

I've taken mine several places. As a matter of fact, my newest little one has spent more time away from home visiting the "grandparents" than she has at home. I have several bags that I carry them in, some designed to disguise what is in them and others that are not. I find that it is a great way to bond with them and I find that if you take your babies places, they are less upset when you have to disturb them by doing something that is not a part of their normal routine. This last Sunday morning we had the fire alarm go off in our apartment complex (very LOUD and ANNOYING) and we just scooped the hedgies up into their bags and went outside. Everyone else was wrestling with their pets to try to keep them calm but our little ones just slept right through it.

I've taken mine to the petstore a few times, I've also taken them to my mom's daycare for her to show them off to her kids. It really is a reward to see the look on people's faces when they've never seen one in person. I tend to try to take my sweeter ones with me so if someone wants to hold them they can. I have a large, purse type bag that is open at the top and pretty deep that I carry mine around it, I can fit two in there if need be.

My hedgie also went with me to work one day. Actually she has been to visit several times, but the last time she actually was there while I worked. She slept in her little carrier under the chair in the fitting room where my coworker kept an eye on her as she was the attendant at the time. At lunch I went to Arby's in the mall and we both went into the break room and she shared my roast beef sandwich with me. :D

Thanks for all of the replies. I hope to take Jyra with me sometime, but haven't had the chance yet. Whenever I have left to go somewhere that I could bring her, it's in the evening, and its getting too cold. I don't have any heat source to bring with me as of yet.

Those little hand warmers work nicely as an additional heat source for hedgies when youre taking them places. I keep a couple of them around all the time for "emergency" situations. You can buy them at Walmart. Ive always found mine in the hunting/outdoors section.

Just make sure you wrap the warmer up in some cloth or something so that your hedgie isnt directly against it. Nancy (Teasels mom) sells little pouches made specially for that purpose.

Those are exactly what I have on my shopping list. I figured they'd be great for excursions, and necessary for power outages. I looked for them at Zellers, but couldn't find them. I figure walmart is a better bet.

I do plan on wrapping them in something because they can get really hot. I've used them before and found they made *me* uncomfortable, so I'm sure Jyra would need some protection from them!

Thanks for the advice.
