Spiny has no extra heat source in the summer or winter. We just keep the apt. at about 22 to 23 degrees celcius.
Spiny is strange though. He prefers it to be 22, no warmer. If it is warmer, he just plops down and is sort of lethargic. At 22 to 20, he runs around like crazy and is very active. I never really have to worry about him being too cold (but, of course, I do worry!).
Some hedgehogs need it very warm (26 or 27 even!), but some, like Spiny, don't really mind not so high temperatures.
If you live in Mississauga (or anywhere around the GTA), you probably don't need extra heat sources in the summer).
