I will bring my hedgie home in 2 days!!! :hyper:
My hedgie room (guest bedroom with huge hedgie cage 5hx3wx2d) stays really warm. I just want to boost the warmth a little. I noticed alot of people use heating lamps. I don't want to use one that emits alot of light since hedgies are night owls. (I acutally read a thread where someone said their hedgie was sleeping the whole time and wouldn't wake up and play till they turned the light off!!!)
Okay so here's the question. I am putting a thermometer in his cage to keep an eye on the temp, but they have those "Nocturnal Black Heat Lamps" that supposedly "Provide radiant heat and simulated moonglow for a nocturnal environment." Would this work? It would keep the cage warm 24/7 without having to worry if it was too much light. I don't really want to use heating pads cause my whole cage is wood. :dunno:

I have not seen the nocturnal black heat lamps, I do not see why this wouldn't work. I have a small study and we use a small electric heater fan as needed. I also have a small lamp with a red bulb in it if I need to check to our hedgies at night. I may have to check into the nocturnal black heat lamp. Thanks for the info.
The waiting is almost over. I hope you post some pics after you get your hedgie home.

Here's a link -there are a couple of different lower watts to choose from 25-40 watts- http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?R=1250&sku=818909&redirectURL=%2fShop%2fSearchResults.aspx%3fN%3d0%2 6Ntt%3dheat%2520lamp&N=0&Ntt=heat+lamp
here's another version, but it's a red heat lamp, choose from 50 to 100 watts. Supposedly it does not disturb day, night cycles either - http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?R=8578&sku=484580&redirectURL=%2fShop%2fSearchResults.aspx%3fN%3d0%2 6Ntt%3dheat%2520lamps&N=0&Ntt=heat+lamps

Try going for a Ceramic Heat Emitter.. They dont give off any light.
The "Bulb"- http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?R=5368&sku=167606&redirectURL=%2fShop%2fSearchResults.aspx%3fN%3d0%2 6Ntt%3dceramic%2520heat&N=0&Ntt=ceramic+heat
You will also need to get a special "lamp" to screw the bulb into otherwise you risk starting a fire.

OR

Make sure the lamps are Ceramic, and double check how many watts they are good up to. Since you wont be getting a very high wattage of bulb- you should be fine with just about anything.

I use heating pads for all of mine, set to low with a pillow cover over them. And as a back up, I have a heating fan set to 70 degrees. If any of you want heating pads for your hedgies or even yourself, I have them for sale with 3 temperature settings with no auto shut off. They can also be used for moist.

If your home is warm enough, you don't need an additional heat source. However, It's always good to have a back up plan in case of emergencies.

Hi, alaskabirch...I'm sorry all... this doesnt fit in this thread at all, but I was wondering if you knew of any hedgie rescues in AK? I looked for them on the internet, and couldn't find any. I saw your site on the internet and meant to email you, but kept forgetting. Thanks!
