I have another question...I've read some other threads on this, but I was still wondering....

When I first got Chili he made the loud barking noise for the first night. He did it again the first night he got his new cage, and again when he went back into his cage from the restrictive cage when he hurt his leg. He also did it when it was thundering really bad. Well he is finally letting me hold him and take him out to play each night. He seems to throw a tantrum if he can't come out when he wants to. He'll come over to the door and shake it or hit it. Last night he kept making the noises until I would get up and turn on the light and come over to him. Is he just being a spoiled little guy wanting more attention?

They can bark for various reasons.. sometimes scared of their new surroundings... sometimes for attention.. yours sounds like it is barking for your attention...you have to love their ability to communicate....sounds like he has you wrapped around his little finger.

Chins are naturally very social critters, so when they are awake they want someone to play with. That is you. He sounds like he has got a great personality. Have you thought about getting him a cage mate. Maybe he is just a very social boy and needs someone to spend every waking moment with, my first female was like that, and no matter howmuch time my family spent with her, she was not fully happy till we got her a cage friend. Good luck, but it sounds like you got a great boy. :hearts:

I'm going to see a 6 month old mosaic boy this week.:) Soo, if everything works out he will probably have a brother soon! I think its funny that is he is so attached to me because his previous owner never paid attention to him.

Thats sweet! My girl doesn't like it when i don't watch her while shes playing. she'll try to get where ever i am and take what ever it is thats not letting me watch her away and she'll chew on it.

It's fun to read about other chinchillas that do what mine does!

The first two days I got my chinchilla, he barked at me. I barked right back, thinking he was talking -- now I realize he was probably scared and scolding me! Now he just makes those little squeeky wheel noises which I interpret as "happy". He does that when he's out of his cage jumping around, and has done it once or twice when I come to his cage to visit him. Oh yeah, he also has his "hurt" noise when he bumps himself or something.

My chinchilla is also quite jealous-seeming when I don't pay attention to him while he's out playing. When I read he tries very hard to bite the pages of my book, and is sometimes sucessful! And yet I feel when I'm not paying so much attention to him he'll spend less time just staring at me and actually move around :0)

My chinchilla also bites/shakes his cage when he wants to play more and I've put him back. Sometimes I can distract him with some wood to chew on or something...

They definately know how to get your attention. It's allergy season, and lately when i play with my chins, all i seem to be doing is blowing my nose.

Well when they want attention they get it! Wallie will take a bite and snatch the kleenexes right out of my hand and run away with them!! :)

Andey does the same thing. last night i was reading and not paying attention to him, and he came right up and started tearing my pages out!!! or if im in the bathroom like brushing my teeth or somehing, he'll jump on the bathroom door until it opens, then he stands on my feet and scratches at my leg, then when i try to pick him up, he takes off running! that little stinker!!!

lol, i seriously think that chinchilla's are the absolutley most entertaining animals i have ever seen in my life!

I think that is so cute.. If I take Bailey into the bathroom for playtime, and I don't take Rocket too.. Rocket will continually jump on the door, or stand there and scratch at it, until I let her in too... and when I was the dishes after dinner, she will stand on my feet scratching my legs, looking up at me too... maybe Andey and Rocket are brother and sister!
