I was going through my pictures and realized I never posted pics of my albino girls spay surgery. They were both spayed the beginning of June when they were about 5 months old.
We'll start with Madelaine- she was first up. Her surgery was about 20 minutes long. For whatever reason, her uterus was not cooperating and not "popping out" as planned, so my vet had to poke her finger in to get it out.

Not to be forgotten, her sister Juliet. Juliet is a little bigger than Madelaine and her uterus cooperated and came "flying" out of there. Her surgery was 10 minutes, open to close!

Both girls had their spays done with a laser.

Great pictures Tawana. Poor Madelaine, she looks so helpless laid out like that.

Those girls did great! I am so lucky to have the vet that I do- I trust her completely or I wouldn't have my girls spayed unless they absolutely needed it. Spaying for preventative measures is still a little controversial. It's a decision that works for me because my vet has experience in spaying exotics and small mammals.
She is awesome and let's me observe or participate in some way during the surgery. I got to give Maddy and Juliet their post op pain medication injections :)

Amazing!!! You mentioned in the title that they may be too graphic for some people to see, so I almost decided not to look...but these weren't bad at all. Actually, I think the most graphic is the very first pic where poor Maddy looked so sad...like a frog ready for dissection or something. And I can't help but think that thing over her head is hilarious....I don't know why...probably because I was expecting it to be really graphic or something, and then, THAT. :)

Those are so awesome!! Thanks for showing! It must be great to have a vet like that. Those surgeries both looked clean and well done. Roughly how much would one pay for a "hedgie hysterectomy"?

I know some people get queasy at the sight of blood(hence the warning), but it was a very clean surgery. Maddy's back leg kept on twitching and it was pretty funny to watch, so she got taped down :)
My vet gives me one heck of a deal! I paid $115US for each hog and that included the laser surgery, post pain meds, recheck exams if needed, a complimentary nail trim and dissolvable sutures.
I know it can be much more expensive to do and that's without a laser. I've seen $200 and up!

Maddy and Juliet sent my vet and her staff a couple dozen crispy cremes because they were feeling great the next day :)
