So I was wondering what's the favorite treats everyone uses for their beloved hedgies?
I know mealworms, crickets....
And?
Also, when giving fruits and veggies...how much? Very finely chopped?

Once again..I know..probably been covered before..but still interested in anything new!!!
Thanks!

Sophie H. loved ANY people food! Anytime I made chicken she would get some of that and just gobble it up. I think she actually liked chicken more than her mealies. But, her absolute favorite was cantelope. She would actually come out of a dead sleep in the middle of the day for cantelope!!! :hyper: I'd cut it into pieces maybe the size of a pinkie fingernail (I have short nails--no artificial ones), so I guess it was fairly small pieces-but even when one of the boys gave her larger pieces she just nibbled at it and always ate it all!

My hedgie crew loves cantaloupe, watermelon and mashed bananas for fruits. I buy organice strawberries, raspberries and blackberries too. Just an FYI- every last hog has annointed over the berries and gave themselves red racing stripes!
I dice everything up into little pieces They refuse to eat veggies unless it is in the babyfood form. They eat peas, green beans, sweet potatos and carrots. I feed ~1 tsp per hedgie. They also like scrambled eggs, baked chicken, turkey and salmon.

Oh my gosh!!! I laughed at loud over the red racing stripes, Paris26!!!! That's great!!!
Thanks for the suggestions guys!! Will definitely have to try cantelope, watermelon and berries!! Those are things I like so it'd be easy enough to buy!!! Never thought about doing babyfood...good idea!!
Anyone ever tried any citrus? Probably too stringy?

I almost had a heart attack when I saw red on my first hedgie who was predominantly white. I thought he cut himself and he was bleeding!
You can try to give citrus in moderation- it is pretty acidic and cause stinky poos. Not all hedgies will eat it either

I've always wanted to give my girl berries especially since this is the summer season. Sorta still anyways. But never gave her any because of seeds. Even I get strawberry or blackberry seeds stuck between my teeth sometimes and have to floss. Was that too gross? Just last night I was eating blueberries and thought it would be very good for her, but my fiancee wasn't sure because of the seeds. So I cut a plump one in half and proceeded to scrape the tiny seeds and then I got concerned about the blueberry skin. In the end, I just gave up and she got couple of wax worms instead. Are we just being paranoid? How do you serve them Tawana?
