She is about 2 1/2 years old. In July she had a hysterectomy (SP??) and it turned out that one of her two tumors was cancerous with a low to moderate chance of spread.

Now, 2 months later, she is loosing quills. Today there was an astounding # of quills in cage (about 50) Could she have gotten mites at the vet, or is it more likely the cancer has spread and that is just what will happen.

Also, could heat be a factor? It gets quite warm in our apartment during the summer, and her cage is on the south facing wall. :dunno:

Any advice would help. Thanks

It very well could be a stress reaction. Some of them seem to loose quills at an alarming rate after a stressful situation like her spay. Our Cinder has done that twice, once after a cannibalized litter and again after her spay. Both times it was about a month later and lasted approximately 10 days each time.

Of course it could be mites. Is she growing in new quills? If so it is probably just from stress but keep a close eye on her and if she looses the quills in patches then have her mite checked. :)

Thanks so much. I will keep watch over her for patches missing. Hoping it is stress as you said. That is a sigh of relief! :)

Thanks again!
