I have a hedgehog baby with light gray quills. What do i call this color? Anywhere I go for colors it says gray hedgehogs have black quills, not gray. Could she be a silver charcoal? Is this rare?

A picture would be really helpful.

Baby quills can be silver-blue colored sometimes. If the quills are still light-grey colored as an adult then you probably have a dilute, such as a silver cinnamon, platinum, or silver charcoal-- depending on whether or not it is a snowflake or a white. There is not an IHA/IHR recognized name for a dilute black that is not a snowflake or white.

Well, a hedgehog that is related to her, has the same father, but not the same mother is still gray and he has already quilled so i'm not sure if she will change color after she quills or not. She's still about a month at least from quilling so i won't know for a while.

If you can find a way to post their pictures, I could probably identify the colors.

Is the older one a darker or lighter color (is the nose black, dark brown, or light brown)? And skin color on the back between front shoulders?

Another way to determine the color of your hedgehog is to fill out the HBA Color Research committee's color form at

http://www.hedgehogcentral.com/colorguide.shtml is a color guide to help figure out what your hedgies color might be. Be advised that if your hedgie is young his color can change during/after quilling takes place.
