Hedgehogs loose quills regularly. It's not like quilling. Quilling is like baby teeth, you loose all the old ones and grow in new ones. You are correct in the hair thing. They loose them regularly and grow new ones in. It's not a huge amount like quilling, but it happens. :high5:

My baby is 7 weeks old and he's quilling majorly right now. When you move his quills in the opposite direction you can see all the little quills growing in. There is probably 2 old quills for every new one.
Is your baby itchy at all? Itching comes hand in hand with quilling. You can give him/her an oatmeal bath with vitamin e oil to relieve that.
Some hedgies loose alot of quills while others loose very little. It varies between hedgies, just like it does between humans and hair loss. I wouldn't really worry too much unless you begin to notice rashes on the skin, have tried the oil bath and hedgie still itches, or you begin noticing bald spots. Of course nothing on this board should ever take the place of a vet's opinion. If you are still doubting the seriousness of you hedgie I would take hedgie to the vet. If nothing else he can at least check the hedgie out and talk with you about your concerns. Most vets will do this free of charge.
