Quilling should never get "bad" enough to the point where theyre are bald spots with no quills. During quilling the hedgie WILL lose alot of quills, and you WILL find them EVERYWHERE, but if you look closely, you should be able to see new adult quills growing in.

Lots of hedgies get quite grumpy during quilling. To help ease any discomfort they may be feeling you can give them warm baths with some oatmeal in the water (put the oatmeal in an old sock etc and tie off the end), and then put some Vitamin E on their skin after they come out. Some people will also add some olive oil to the water. All of these things will help eliviate some of the discomfort associated with quilling, as well as help treat/prevent dry skin.

Question2: I noticed small laission at the back of both her ears near the neck... I am not sure what caused it & is worried about mites... pls advice...

Im assuming you mean there are small cuts on the backs of both of her ears. Is there anything around in her cage that could have caused this? Are her ears looking very ragged. Is her skin really dry/flakey looking?

If the cuts dont look infected (red, pusy etc) then I would just leave them be. If they are then she needs to see a vet ASAP.

If you suspect your hedgie has mites then its best to get her to the vet for a skin scrapping and treatment.

Some symptoms of mites include (but arent limited to)

-really ragged ears (sometimes can also be dry skin)
-dry, flakey skin (can sometimes just be dry skin as well, and have nothing to do with mites)
-excessive scratching
-bald patches with no quills

You can do an at home mite check by taking your hedgie and rubbing a black T-shirt over her. Look at the shirt very carefully and see if you can see any white specks moving. If you can, those are mites. This test isnt fool proof- so if you still suspect mites, its probably a good idea to go and see a vet.

try to give him/her Max Spectrum Oil in with her food that will help with dry skin and help keep their skin and fur healthy and it has some vitamins in it also, you can get it at a health food store if they dont stock it they should be able to order it for you.
