Ok I only have chinnies so far and would like to learn about hedgies. I have read a few posts on here and noticed that they can eat a variety of things. What is their main food? And what do you give as treats?

Also, what are the no-nos when it comes to feeding them?

To make it short and simple, a hedgies main diet should consist of a low fat (10-20%) mixture of cat and dog kibbles that contain at least 30% protien. They need 15% fiber in their diet as well.
Kibbles are fed freely- meaning they are available at all times.
Other foods ("treats") can be subsituted into their diet to help give them things they may be lacking otherwise. Treats should be given sparingly (about 1 tsp per evening) and one at a time. This way if a certain treat upsets your hedgies tummy you will have a better idea of what caused it.
Treats include, but are not limited to (cover your chinnies eyes! they will be jelous!)
-cooked chicken, cooked beef (not very much, its fatty), cooked pork (same as beef), tuna, salmon
-veggies and fruits- different mellons, strawberries, blue berries, cooked carrot, peas, corn in small amounts, mashed potatos, yams, squash
-cottage cheese, reg cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs
-baby foods- chicken, turkey, beef, different types of canned fruits/veggies
That is more or less everything in a nutshell. If youd like I can PM you a MUCH more detailed description of hedgie diet/nutrition that I wrote up.
