chat problems

Can't figure out how to get the chat to work....

You just hit the chat button then accept the java pop up. It should take you right in.

I'm not getting the pop up at all, I turned off my pop up blocker and it just has a small box in the upper left with a red X in it.

Are you clicking on the "yes" or "ok" or whatever it is that pops up and asks you to authorize the Java applet to run? Something tells me that's the problem.

You'll need to download java - http://www.java.com/en/

The chat does not work in Firefox and will cause problems, if you are using Safari (mac) there is a mac version out there somewhere. :)

And if you are behind a corporate/education server firewall, odds are against you getting through.

I've found the only time it shows up as a little box with the red 'x' is when you don't have the java engine installed.

If you are behind a firewall (the FS has one) it will partially load, but you will never get the chat box. If it is a home kit - like the Motorola modems, you have to tell it to allow access on the port the chat is on (it says on the error message you will get). My friend could control this via a webpage - it took us almost 3 hours to figure out. Fortunately WSU does not block that port. :)
