What do you think is the best Chin age for a Pet Owner to aquire a Chin? Should it be say 6 months, 1 year, 1 1/2, 2 years? Please advise and reason? I dont have a clue.

i got a 3 month old when i became a chin owner.. and if i get more, they will also be in the 3-5 month range.. why? because they are youngens with loads of growing to do.... i get to see every new thing my chin does, my chin's personality started showing around 6 months of age, and i was able to handle/get to know my chin from the start.. older one's are just as enjoyable i'm sure... but i prefer youngens.. they grow and learn while i'm enjoying the "cuteness of there smallness"..kinda like an infant i guess..

When I got HanPan she was 3 months old and bonded with us in a matter of days. Dusk and Glitter were both over a year, and took a little bit longer to come around (about a week or two). But I haven't had enough experiance with chins to say this is the same for all, as I've heard some chins take a lot longer.

If you get a baby (3 months) you get to watch his/her personality form, and they will probably bond with you a little faster. If you get an older chin, it also depends on where from. If you get a rescue, he'll probably take longer to come around as he was treated badly by his former owner, but it will be even more rewarding has you saved his life.

Then again, in the long run it depends on the chin.

I think people tend to think of kits as puppies. If you get them younger you bond more. I'm not sure this is true. Some of my very best pets came as adults from ranches where they had never been touched other than to transfer them from run to run. Buddha, Maeve, Grianne, my Ivy girl, the list goes on and on. You are going to get out of the relationship with your chin what you put in. Whether it's a baby or an adult, and depending on the chin's very own personality, if you spend no time with him/her you will have a standoffish chin. If you take the time to handle your chins, regardless of age, you can have a wonderful bond with them as well. Young adults and older adults are just as loving as babies if you take the time to love them first.

I'd have to agree with Tunes. I've had baby chins that grew up to be crabby adults-no matter how much handling. I've also had adult ranch chins that are total cuddlers. I think it mostly depends on the temperment of the animal.

I too have to agree with Tunes. My most loveable chin didn't come to me until she was almost a year old and she is sweet as she can be. Two of her kits have been total brats no matter how much they are held and cuddled from the day they are born.

It all depends on the independant temperment of the chin in question. Age isn't a consideration for me.

There is NOTHING more satisfying than to watch an adult chinchilla become trusting and friendly. To see the adult personality unfold and blossom as the chinchilla adapts to new surroundings. To watch them go from quiet and shy to outgoing and energetic as they discover the joy of ricocheting around the room, off the walls, little furry pinballs.

Too much worry with babies. Especially with noobs.

what's the difference in worries between age's? they can all break limbs, fall ill, deal with mouth issues.... i see no difference in a 3 month old's worries than a 2 year old's, etc..
most opinions are the same.. it is not the age, or where they come from.. it is the individual temperament of each chin..
i've seen some that are adults and could care less to be loved and cuddled.. and seen youngens who crave/love it..
personal choice, personal opinions..

Weanlings are more prone to digestive issues, bloat, torsion, eating disorders, intersusseception. They don't have the weight to carry them through a major illness nor the substance to make surgical repairs easier.
