Hi ppl, I just got a Chilla from a breeder at the Captive Breeder's Expo in Puyallup WA. He's a boy that's really light ash colored, not dark at all. Plan on breeding too. The lady I got him from also had leucistic (white w/ black/blue eyes) ones. So in my future breeding projects, I would like to have leucy's too.
I mainly keep and breed Pythons, mostly Morelia, but I keep 6 different species. The gf wanted me to get something warm blooded aka cute and fuzzy, so I decided to go all out and get a good small sized endotherm, a chilla. I see there's some other Chilla keepers/breeder here in WA too. Hope to get to know ya.

(Wonder how long it'll take for this reply to post)

This is a great place to learn about breeding, and about chins in general. Everyone is really nice and has a lot of good advice.

Welcome! I have never heard of a chin referred to as leucistic. Did the breeder call it that? I would think her white would just be mosaic. Some mosaics can be almost completely white and my eb white girl always has very blue tinted eyes and my light standard boy's eyes used to look blue sometimes. Just wondering because there is a leucistic sea turtle here at the aquarium, really neat, just never heard of it in chins.

Leucistic is a term more used in the reptile world. It means all white with black or blue eyes. With mammals you see more albinism rather than leucism, especially in rodents. It is a simple recessive gene in reptiles, so I just use it as an adjective in other animals, Leuc(k) meaning white, and -istic meaning pertaining to.
I have been keeping reptiles for 8 years now and have learned almost all of my genetics from them. The other genetics I know from my lifetime experience of having Hemophilia. Genetics are very very interesting.......
Paris- What do I have to do to earn your trust? You guys seriously get that many spammers creating accounts to post spam? Not saying I don't believe it, I've just never heard of it happening to an extent to warrant this kind of reaction. Also never heard of this function for vB forums, good to know I guess. Is it post count or proving my worthiness? Or proving I have a chilla with pics? I will have them up shortly, I work nights so it's hard for my brain to function during the day :dizzy: :freak: And when I'm at work I remember all the things I forgot.
