hi there :) I recently got a 4 month old hedgie on Tuesday and found out she has mites. I got her into the vet yesterday, they did a skin scraping just to double check and then gave her that injection thingy (I forget what the med is called)

I asked the vet about side effects and all she told me is she'd probably sleep a lot at night from all the stress and to be gentle around the spot she got the injection at. But last night when she woke up she ran and ran and ran on her wheel, but only ate ONE piece of kibble. And she didn't even touch the ground beef I had in there as a treat! That worries me because every other night that I've had her, she's ate between 10 and 12 pieces. Could the medicine have made her not hungry like that? Are there any side effects the vet didn't tell me about? Or am I just being paranoid? any help I can get would be appreciated, thx guys.

I'm going to say that your vet gave your hedgie an Ivermectin injection which is used quite commonly in mite treatment for hedgies. I prefer Revolution myself because it is a topical and one treatment is usually sufficient. With Ivermectin, you usually need to repeat the treatment in 2 weeks. Some other side effects can include additional quill loss, irriatation at the site of injection, allergic reactions.

Some hedgies get sleepy, others are ready to go. Depends on the hedgehog. Watch her tonight, if she doesn't eat tonight, you need to call your vet
