My hedgie is almost 17 weeks old? I think she is quilling, but I'm not sure. How long does quilling last and is there anything I can do to make her feel better?

Thanks,
Bettina

I've had some that took their sweet time quilling and finished around 6 months. Others had it over and done with in a few weeks.

A warm bath every few days with either oatmeal or aveeno oatmeal bath will help soften and soothe her sore skin. Other than that, just lots of love and gentle handling. :)

Thanks, I'll try that! I was wondering why my hedgie was being so grumpy with me and realized she was quilling.

You can also add some flaxseed or fish oil to her food to help with her skin. Just a few drops should do it.

Are you collecting the quills? My little girl started yesterday and so far I've collected 10, which will change once I go wake her up. :D I was amazed at how small they are. My husband thinks they look like cactus stickers.

I already do that.

No, but I'm going to start. They are small aren't they.

I've now collected 29, and who knows how many went down the drain from her bath. And they may be small, but that doesn't mean they aren't sharp. Ouch! However, after giving her a rinse with Vitamin E in it, her quills don't feel anywhere near as pokey & her skin looks much better, not so dry. :D Hedgie hugs...Tiffany

Make sure you vacuum well and check all the spots your hedgehog has been because it's not fun to get them stuck in your foot. Oh and be careful in laundry too. I've found them in my clothes sometimes.
