I'm the proud new owner of an awesome hedgehog named Jube!!! I got her about a week and a half ago, and for the most part I think we're bonding pretty well. I did have a couple of questions that I hope someone could answer though. Sometimes whenever I put her back in her cage after her "play time" she goes almost immediately into her home and "plugs" it up with her bedding, why does she do that? Also, she eats mealy worms if I leave them in her food dish, but won't eat them directly from me. Is that because she is still unsure about me? Is there a way I can make her warm up to eating out of my hand? Thanks for all your help!!!

She may not be used to your scent yet. I would wear the same t-shirt to bed a few nights and then let her smell it while you play with her for a few more nights. She will eventually eat out of your hand. They say that is they do that means that they trust you. Maybe it is just b\c it was a worn though. Try feeding her some of her crunchy food from your hand or a piece of cooked meat and work up to worms. When I put Scoops back into his cage he goes directly into his house too, or runs under the liners. She might be "plugging" up her house b\c she is trying to get comfy and lay down. Very possible. Congrats on your little girl!! Ask as many questions as you want. There are lots of educated people on this forum.

Togape won't eat meal worms out of my had or out of dish, she likes to burrow thru her bedding for them, or when she gets them in the playpen she likes to follow them for a second.

wolfgang positively refuses to eat worms in front of us, even in his bowl. he'll eat around them if we're watching. but theyre always gone by morning so i KNOW he likes them. silly.
