Hello! I just joined and I just wanted to introduce myslef. My boyfriend and I have 3 chinchillas: a female standard named Bella, a male standard named Hatch, and a hetero beige named Baby Chin. We had a fourth but unfortunately he passed 2 days ago. That is initially what got me interested in this site when I was looking for information. Well, once agian I just wanted to formally say hello! :)

P.s. also...can anyone tell me why the mail icon to the left of the post has a hole in the center and is different than everyone else's? Is that to distinguish it's mine? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of your loss. Not trying to pour salt in your wounds, but do you know what caused it? If he was not quarantined, you may want to keep a close eye on the rest of the chins. Or was he a baby of your other two? Hope you enjoy the forum. It is a great place for information and research.

By the whole, do you mean the black dot when you are on the index part of the forum? If so, it means that you have made a post in that thread. If you post a thread, or response to one, it makes it easier to locate when you try to find it.

Thanks for the warm welcome! (and the answer to my p.s. haha) My little guy passed because of some kind of anaphylactic reaction. The vet never did quite figure out the problem. So I lost my poor chinchilla and quite a lot of money :(. We assume some kind of insect/spider bite to his face. Unfortunately it caused massive swelling and he couldn't breathe :(.

Oh no! That's an awful thing to go through. Poor lil one. I just got over having a spider bite (i think?) on my right hand index finger. It was so painful and swollen for 2 weeks.

I can't imagine a poor lil chinnie dealing with that on their face!
