I know there are a MILLION different recipes out there for tator tot casseroles but I would like to here all the different choices.
I use "a layer" of tator tots, 2 pounds of seasoned grilled ground beef, one can of cream of mushroom, one can of cream of chicken, a small can of corn, and topped with cheese. All in a glass pyrex pan.
Bake it all on 350 for about 35-45 minutes until browned. :)

MMM! I LVOE tator tot casserole! It brings back memories from childhood! I always eat it with lots of ketchup! We use a layer of tator tots, and then we cook the hamburger and mix 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup with it, and then put that down on top of the tator tots and then we put a can or two of corn ontop of the meat mixture, and then we layer another top of tator tots....Mmm omgosh its so good!!!
You use them just as they are. They will cook in the oven. I dont think youd want to precook them as they get really soft sometimes when you cook them and you would end up with a mess, not like tator tot casserole isn't a mess anwayys, but a bigger mess! its SOOOO good j_betina! Try it! I bet it'll be a hit! lol mmm im gunna go home and make some omgosh! I knwo some people use green beans insted of corn, i dont recommend it unless you have allergies to corn! Corn is just OSOOO much better! We have green beans used here at school and its just not nearly as good. Gotta use corn to get the real tator tot casserole flavor :) yummmm!

We don't use precise measurements, but we cook hamburger or turkey burger in Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken with a little milk (about 1/4 cup) in a skillet. Layer it with green beans and tater tots in a casserole dish. Heat it in the oven until the tater tots are done.
That sounds good right now.
**Why do they call it hamburger when it's made of beef? (Something to do with Germany I bet.)

Here are 2 versions that are popular with friends. Instead of Tator Tots hash browns (shredded or cubed - whatever you prefer) has been used.
Heather’s Cheesey Potato Bake
1 small onion
1 cup reduced fat Cheddar cheese
2 Tbsp. margarine
1/2 tsp. pepper
32 oz package of southern-style hash browns, thawed
16 oz container fat-free sour cream
10 oz can of reduced fat Cream of Mushroom soup
Spray a baking dish with cooking spray. Combine all ingredients and place in baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Kim’s Revised Tator Tot Casserole
1 lb 96%ff ground beef
1/2 c chopped onion
1/2 c chopped bell pepper
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
1 bag frozen shredded potatoes
Heat oven to 350. Take potatoes out of freezer and allow to thaw. Not mushy, but enough that you can break them up.
Brown ground beef with onions and bell peppers until cooked through. Drain off grease. Season to your liking. Add the 2 cans of soup. Mix well. Pour into a 9x13 pan. Top with potatoes. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes. Turn oven to broil and leave in until top layer of potatoes is crispy and brown.

I love this:
Emeril's Kicked-Up Mac & Cheese
2 teaspoons butter
2 eggs
2 cups of whole milk
Salt and white pepper
2 cups grated Cheddar cheese
2 cups grated White Cheddar cheese (I use Colby Jack)
2 pound bag of Tater Tots, thawed
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 9 x 2-inch square baking dish with the butter. In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and milk together. Season the mixture with salt and pepper. Add 1 cup of the Cheddar cheese, 1 cup of the White Cheddar cheese and the tatter tots. Mix the mixture thoroughly. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and sprinkle the top with the remaining cheese. Place in the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
I also have a good Hashbrown Casserole:
2 lbs hashbrowns (thawed)
1/2 cup butter (melted)
salt
pepper
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 can Cream of Chicken soup
2 cups Colby Jack Cheese (shredded)
Preheat oven to 350. Spray 9 by 13 pan with nonstick spray. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix thoroughly. Spoon into dish. Bake uncovered, 30 minutes or until top is golden brown.

I think I will try it and btw interesting note as to why it's called hamburger
when germans immigrated to the us they brought with them the Hamburg steak ( named for the city Hamburg) which originated on the German Hamburg-Amerika line boats, which brought emigrants to America in the 1850s. There was at that time a famous Hamburg beef which was salted and sometimes slightly smoked, and therefore ideal for keeping on a long sea voyage. As it was hard, it was minced and sometimes stretched with soaked breadcrumbs and chopped onion. It was popular with the Jewish emigrants, who continued to make Hamburg steaks, as the patties were then called, with fresh meat when they settled in the U.S. (the actual idea of using beef like this didn't originate in Hamburg just that's where it was imported from pretty much it's believed even back to gengis khan and even ancient egyptians might have made a form of beef patty similar to what we have today.
