had to share this. i love this. it takes a peculiar taste to love them, and boy oh boy i do..
Ingredients:
X# of GREEN Unripe Tomatoes (How many is up to you..)
Flour
Butter
Frying Pan!
Slice the tomatoes to about 1/4th an inch thick, and dip both sides in a bowl of flour so that they are covered nicely.
Take 4 tablespoons of butter, put in frying pan, and wait till all is melted and ready.. (Range set at Medium/High)
Spread out the floured tomato slices on the pan, no stacking, only to cover surface
Check the bottoms periodically, when golden brown, flip the slices over with a fork (or whatever is handy..)
When golden brown on both sides, take out of frying pan, place on place, salt, and ENJOY!!!
(Repeat if necissary!)

any true southern gal is supposed to love fgt's.. i am most certainly no exception..
i love them.. but my recipe use's eggs/milk.. dip them in that, then in flour, and deep fry... omg, yummyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...
shute, a milk and egg dip is a staple in my house.. i dip my chicken, pork, seafood, etc.. in it first.. really gives food an awesome crispy coating..
oh and i use peanut oil for the most part.. expensive, but gives a distinct flavor to any fried food..
might have to try yours abby... butter.... another staple in my home..

don't need one abby:winkgrin: you can use any deep pot to deep fry.. i wish i had a deep fryer like the restaurants but whew at the amount of grease that'd take.. they do sell the mini one's now.. it is yet another item on my *gotta have* list..
but really, you can take a deep saucepan and put in enough oil to cover your food... works well..

I have the deepr frier but dont use it very often more likely than not I use a pot and do it that way it's just easier for me instead of lugging out the frier it's too heavy (I know Im lazy lol) maybe when it starts getting a bit warmer I'l pull it out and start making some more things with it like fried chicken. main reason we got it was so hubby could me make fresh fries lol

This is a favorite of mine, as well. And being from the good ole' south...can't beat the egg/milk/flour/cornmeal mixture. I've never tried it in the deep fryer (we just got one of those fancy new ones...love it, a southern girls dream...lol!). I have a well seasoned iron skillet for such things.

only thing abou tusing pot make sure the oil is hot enough because when you put the tomatoes in it cools just a little and you don't want it to cool so much that it will not cook them well. the mor eoil you use the less temperature change there is. so try to use a bitmore than you think you will need and make sure it gets nice and hot otherwise it'll be greasy tomatoes that come out
