Cupcake and Prickles II have gone on tour of several elementary schools here in Houston. They are helping teachers explain adaptive self-protection mechanisms and behaviours. The kids just love them and the hedgehogs seem to thrive on the attention. Fortunately, Prickles II is not a biter like his namesake. In fact, Prickles II is learning to strut a bit in the presence of his admirers. One little girl managed to get Cupcake into her backpack without the teacher knowing, though, and was only found out when another child told the teacher. The kids were already in the bus line to go home. Close call! The teacher in that case only got a waiver because she is my girlfriend. Even though I go along as a chaparone for the hedgies' outings with teachers other than my girlfriend, I made up a little handbook for the teachers thattells about hedgies and gives care instructions -- I just added a section on "hedge-napping prevention".
