Hey All,

I have had my girls for a little while now and playtime seems to stay pretty much the same. I wanted to spice things up for them so I was hoping for your help.

What does everyone do at play time with their hedgies?

Any ideas, pictures anything would be awesome, thanks so much!

I give Hemi a toilet paper tube to play with, as well as some ping pong balls, rolled up paper, a shoebox, some kibble scattered around. I also hide things in her cage to occupy her at night. I give her a sheet of paper towel to shred (which she loves and makes a HUGE mess). She loves to play with her beanie babies too.

I give my guys anything that is hedgie safe. You would be amazed at what they find interesting. My computer desk which is a constant mess is just a wonderland of interesting things. Pens, erasers, combs, tape dispensers, large rolls of tape, you name it, if it is different, they like it. No they don't 'play' with most of the stuff but they sure do find it interesting to explore.

New smells are another very intersting thing. Take a cloth and rub a spot over a bar of soap, vanilla, spices, a cookie or anything different smelling. You just need a very slight hint of the smell and they have a great time digging, chewing at it and annointing. Just make sure whatever you use is safe to smell and chew.

There are so many wonderful new smells and things to explore. Use your imagination. As long as the item has no small pieces, is not sharp and you are constantly supervising, just about anything can be a wonderful thing to explore. :)

That's actually an awesome idea...i think I'll try that...I know mom has some scented candles around that give off a slight scent, and I have some extra fleece here... and i know some of my body spray is so light Hemi would love it.

Thank you!

My gang each have their own "hair scrunchy". The silk kind. I rub different stuff on them and they all go nuts with them. They like to carry them around and often I will find a scrunchy in a hedgie bag or hidey house when they have slept with it. After about a week, I put them in a laundry bag, wash them and then use something different for scent.

The gray fuzzy thing on the left finds the hedgies rather amusing. He's also a ham for the camera.

That's also a good idea. I know my sister has some silk scrunchies I could steal for Hemi. I'm sure my sister won't mind ( I mean, who can resist her cute face?). :)
