We are leaving town in March for a week and in October for 10 days. What do you do with your hedgie when you leave town?

well I'll ask for someone to take care of him/her (change water, put food and clean the cage). If I was to leave for 10 days, I'll take it to my mom's house probably

While for my chins and other animals my mom comes over to take care of them. She will take care of hedgie to when he comes. I leave instruction care booklets I've made up and little stickies everywhere. I also leave the times for everything, schedule they are on posted beside their cages. Everything is spelled out quite clear, and I put my vet number and # I can be reached on everything.

If my mom couldn't I guess I'd ask someone to and pay them, but it would have to be someone I really trusted.

I have had my boyfriend's family or my next door neighbor take care of Razzle when I have gone away. I have "trained" everyone on proper hedgie care! They all have it drilled into their heads that Razzle needs his daylight time, his darkness time, his temp. requirements, wheel cleaned, etc. Everyone has been so fascinated with him that they didnt' even mind picking up the poo and washing a dirty wheel (or so they said.....). I also have written out instructions as well as contact numbers.

If I didn't have people I knew and trusted, the next best thing would be to look for a vet that boards exotics. Not sure how much $$ that would be though.

When we went away, we just took Ned next door to my hubby's parents house and they took good care of him for us. :)

My boyfriend's cousin takes care of our hedgies when we are out of town. I make sure they check on the temp of the apartment, keep water full, and food full. They also check to see that everyone is doing ok. I would never leave my pets not looked after for that long. They also feed our fish and check on the froggies when we are gone for a long time.

If you bought your hedgehog from a breeder, you may want to ask if they hedgie sit or can recommend someone who does.

I love to hedgie sit for the hedgehogs I sold. It gives me a chance to see them all grown up and to talk with the owners and answer any questions.
