Has anyone ever heard of Iam kitten food being bad for hedgehogs? That is what all mine are eating now, but they are fat and I am pretty sure it is from the food. Usually kitten food has a higher percentage of fat. I just wanted to make sure before I switched it. Does anyone have any food suggestions for them?

Kitten food should not be fed past about 10-12 weeks and even then it just depends on the baby. Iams is not a good food to feed anything so yes changing foods is a good idea.

My gang love Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul Lite. It is by far their favourite. They also eat Royal Canin lite 37. :)

My girl is on a mix of Royal Canin Light 37 cat food, and Royal Canin Mini Special dog food. She likes the dog food better than the cat food, and since it's for "mini" dogs, it's pretty much the same size as the cat food. The only thing about the dog food is it's higher in fat, which I needed because Hemi was underweight, as the vet told me. Now she's healthy, and I'll begin switching her to a lower fat food.

Iams food in general has been linked to liver problems in hedgies. It just isnt a great food- and I personally wouldnt feed it to anything- cat or hedgie.

If you need a hand picking out good foods for you hedgie, or just need a general idea of what to look for in a good food- feel free to pm me and I can send you a write up I did. :)

thank you for all you help. What made me switch my cats from eating Iams food was an artical that i read. Peta has found out that Iams tests on animals. I am a part of Peta's "street team" so therefore, I switched my cats' food. I was going to wait a while to change the hedgie food though because I had two hedgies that were pregnant and I didn't think it would be a great idea to switch the food right before the babies were due.
I will deffinantly look into other food. A close friend of mine I believe is feeding her hedgies Wellness. Has anyone tried that?

Don't know about Wellness, but I do recommend PrettyHate's write-up on hedgie diets--it was very helpful to me!

PETA's findings against IAMS were all falsified. IAMs and Eukanuba shouldn't be fed because they contain ethoxyquin, an ingredient that is thought to cause cancer and reproductive issues.

Let's ask PETA about all the animals they killed in Virginia. http://www.petakillsanimals.com/pressRelease_detail.cfm?id=120

I wouldn't even feed a stray cat IAMS . . . its crap in a bag. Wellness is an awesome food in my opinion, for cats, anyway.

LMAO@ hedgemom!
