This is kind of a strange question but what have you had hedgies die from? I am getting a hedgehog and was wondering what your most commom cause of death is. I am sorry if this offends anyone.

Our very first hedgie died of pnemonia 9 days after we got him. Being first time hedgie owners and hedgies hiding illness so well by the time we realized he was sick and managed to get him into a vet there wasn't enough time for the meds to work. This is one reason I am so insistent that people take sneezing seriously.
Our second hedgie we had to put to sleep 2 weeks ago due to advanced WHS.

I had an older rehome die of a sort of heart failure, another female die from dystocia (retained placenta or tear in uterus most likely), and a rehome that died of old age. Both rehomes were over 3 years and before coming to me I'm not sure if there were any other underlying factors to any of it. The female was younger and died after her first litter was weaned. I currently have a 4 year old that just had a cancerous tumor removed from her back, but she is still alive and well.

Wally died of lympoma that started out in his abdomen and then spread. Tico died of intestinal lymphoma. Both hedgies were almost 4 yrs of age and I had them for almost a year when they both passed

I have had hedgehogs die from several causes. I have been lucky enough to loose several to old age, but i have also lost hedgehogs to CVA's, cancer and one to what I now think was a staph infection. I have had one wobbly hedgehog come through my doors as a rescue, and she was adopted by someone who specializes in caring for hedgehogs with major medical problems, but she died less than 2 weeks after coming to me. I'll keep hoping for all my kids to make it to ripe old age :)

I had a hog die from being paralyized in the back legs. She was fine, and then something happened and she could no longer walk. At her age, I decided to humanly let her go, instead of doing exploratory surgery(she was older). The vet thinks she may have had a tumor along her spinal cord that caused what happened.

This kinda doesn't fit here but I had a dog who we had to put down due to a tumor on his spinal cord. His back legs also became paralysed. If it could happen to dogs I am sure it could happen to hedgehogs as well.
