Yum! Just had a glass of white wine and am slowly plugging away at a bottle I opened on Super Bowl Sunday. But I got thinking about what if I were to make my own. Therefore, I'm contemplating making my own wine. Not true grape-based wine (I'm too much of a plebian for that!), but rather country wines such as meads, dandelion, strawberry, etc wines. I fairly recently got back from a vacation in Seatlle and while out there I toured some wineries which really piqued my curiousity. Does anyone have any experience making their own glorious, glorious wines?

My husband makes mead and brews beer. And we just ordered 300 Petite Syrah vines for planting in June. Yep, we're starting a vineyard.

WIth mead the key is waiting...and waiting...and waiting. Good mead gets better the longer you wait. potable at 90 days, but you're better off waiting.

Go buy "Making Mead" by Brian Acton and Peter Duncan. About $10....best investment you can make if you are going to be serious.

We've never made our own but we'd like to especially since we buy it all the time and that can get expensive. Wine is good. :) Blush is my fave.

Ahhhhhhhh a topic close to my heart. Although I don't make mine We just aren't a great region for it. Local wines I have had to strain to get the mineral out of them before I drink, but such is the soil here in vermont. I enjoy wine very much. Especially picking out wines to match my foods I make. MmmmmmmmmmmmMMM

I was looking at the co-op yesterday at the different choices. Hubby & I are right now trying myriads of Chardonnay since we are awaiting SPRING! So far I find that Chardonnay from Burgundy is delightful! Our faves are generally Syrah, Sangiovese, Riesling (the drier side Alsace or German) and Gewurztraminer, and some standby italian reds.

Anyway - I found Pear Wine, Apple wine and blueberry wine while looking. I personally like grapes. The others I find way to sweet but maybe some ideas for you.

Wine is an expensive habit for me but OH DEAR I can barely eat a meal without a good glass!

There is a company based in California that sells "kits" to make your wines. You can order the different grape varieties I think they have Chardonnay and Riesling along with others a quick google search can find them.
